Move Update Standards for
First-Class Mail®
and Standard Mail®
AGENCY: United
States Postal Service®.
ACTION: Effective as of November 23, 2008
Two new mailing standards established to improve
the percentage of deliverable mail were effective as of November 23, 2008.
These are:
- The Move Update requirements now include
all pieces of Standard Mail.
- The minimum frequency of Move Update processing is 95 days prior to mailing instead of 185 days.
The Postal Service® believes
the revised
standards in this ruling are crucial to the continued vitality of
the postal system, as well as the business interests of mailers. The
U.S. Postal Service®
spends about $1.8 billion a year handling
Undeliverable-As- Addressed (UAA) mail. The new change to the Move
Update requirements will result in better address quality by removing
incorrectly addressed pieces from subsequent mailings, which is
anticipated to reduce UAA mail by 50%.
